My C63 seems to be showing a leaky rear tyre, just a slow puncture.

Would you fix a slowie on a C63 or replace (assume both) the rear tyre (s).

My first modern performance car so would appreciate people's thoughts over that of the local kwik-fit!!

Thanks,

Tom

Dependant upon where the puncture is and how much tread you have left.

If it's a straight forward "middle of the tread" type puncture I'd get it repaired. A decent tyre fitter should let you know if it's repairable. Possibly not the company you mention, though I've personally had no problems with them.

If the tyres getting towards it's limits I'd be looking at replacing the pair of them They won't last too long on a 63 anyway. smile

probably depends on how you drive the car also. If you are doing track days and driving at 100mph+ everywhere then get it replaced but for the mundane commute then get it repaired!

I had a slow puncture on my nearside rear...I replaced both rears. Annoying as I had reasonable tread depth remaining, however I didn't want to risk a tyre going pop when driving, er, spiritedly.

If you've 18"s, then I still have my old 'good' Conti Sport Contact 5.

Good advice there, thanks all. I think I'll just replace both of the rears. Better safe than sorry.

Have you actually checked the tyres for a puncture?

C63 alloys are well known to form hairline cracks, which in turn means you lose tyre pressure. Just something to be aware of.

May just be the tyre needs to be refitted. I had similar and it was fixed when I had the tyre taken off and put back on the wheel.

Thanks, both very good points. Was actually joking about Quik Fit, will chat to the boys at Merc Chelsea, see what they say,

One other thing to consider - it could be the valves.

My CL63 had two four new tyres and then started to show signs of losing pressure a few weeks later. Some soapy water showed the air was getting out via the valves.

My car has the active pressure sensors in the valves and the dealer can replace just the centre part of the unit for a small fee (a lot less that replacing the entire unit!). Not sure if the C63 has the same system or not.
