I've had this car September 2006 vehicle since it was 3 months old with 2500 miles on the clock. It's the W211 estate model. It's now done 75500 miles and has regularly been dealer serviced in line with the the on board assyst service schedule.
Tonight after a fairly lengthy journey and exiting the Limehouse link junction by turning right I experience a loss of engine power as I pulled across the junction and was fortunate to be able to coast to a stop safely and without hindering any traffic. This is my first experience of a real problem with this car. There were no fault codes flashing up and although I believe I never witnessed any additional 'lamps' on the dash, turning the ignition key to off and the back to on failed to start the car, in fact it was like the starter was dead. However a few moments later as I was comtemplating calling the Mercedes people. The car started and off I went and another 20 mile with no incident showing itself. I am now thinking the problem will no doubt show itself again at some point and was looking for some wise heads to give some pointers as to what the problem may be and whether putting the car through the star diagnostic would show the issue up.

Cheers thanks for any advice in advance.

Have a STAR plug-in and go from there.

Without plugging in to the STAR, we will never know....

However, it sounds fuel supply related, so it could be a fuel pump on it's way out... that would explain the lack of power and the difficultly in starting shortly after the symptoms showed the first time.

The inlet port shut down motor failure (a known weakness) results in loss of power, but does not give difficulty in starting. As already said, needs STAR diagnosis, but does sound like a fuelling issue.

Cheers everyone thanks for the advice. I've since been out in the car and wasn't able to replicate the problem, so unless it does it again soon, will wait until it goes in for the next service in the new year.
