Hi Chaps - hope you are all doing well and looking forward to a restful xmas and new year.

I am looking at getting a M Class to replace my C Coupe and wanted to find out if anyone has the new M and what you think. Previous models were not great interns of build, or so I have read, is that really the case. Also do we think it is a car that can actually rival Range Rover, Audi Q7 or BMW X5.

Cheers all

I can relate to apprehension with the M as I had similar thoughts - theres the Range Rover's (with brand and status on their side) and the BMW's (with the promise of better dynamics) as alternatives. However, when I actually tried one I was surprised - the build quality is outstanding, it's probably one of the most refined cars we've had and it has the comfiest seats I've ever sat in - as a long distance car, it is simply fabulous. It is the ML63 AMG version though, although I suspect all versions share similar attributes.

I thought it was nicer to drive and much more modern than the equivalently priced old shape RRS Supercharged, and it was much better value than the new shape RRS. In all honesty, whilst the new RRS has a nicer interior ambience (the Merc is a little plain in terms of interior design), it doesn't feel as well made, it's significantly more expensive and even the latest version is still leagues behind the Germans in terms of telematics and technology.

Also, in comparison to an X5M I'd previously driven, the BMW is definitely more dynamic feeling with a better gearbox, but it feels somewhat more ordinary.

I have a 62 ML350, previously had the older model.

The new model is far more refined and I would recommend th ML. It is cheaper than RR and BMW and I think better VFM.

Would love the ML63, but 350 is ok for day to day running and has enough power for normal use. The only
problem I've had was to do with MB making a mess up upgrading the sat nav software. So nothing major!

I've stuck on winter tyres for extra assurance in the winter and it makes a big improvement to grip.

Any further questions, let me know.

Thanks guys,

After reading around the internet and with your positive opinions, I think I will take the plunge. Now I have some time between Xmas and NY, I will hit the dealers and see what they can offer and more importantly get in one and drive it!

Have a restful break!
