Selling 1968 280 SL Sports Pagoda - advice please
Discussion
I have been asked to help sell a 1968 SL Sports Pagoda. I know the answer may well be 'list on PH', but has anyone got any recommendations of a specialist dealer to use? I don't want the hassle of dealing with viewings etc, so prefer to use a specialist. What sort of commissions should one expect to pay? The is really mint with a full history, so I guess anotehr option could be an auction. Again, any suggestions? Many thanks.

A 280SL is a wonderful car and the 280 is the preferable car (if it's auto).
If it really is very original and in very good condition then I would suggest giving Richard at Cotswold a call. They broker cars and their commission is very fair, London dealers will just take too much. They have just sold this beautifully original 230SL:

He knows all of the correct elements that makes a desirable SL, so much of which is lost in restoration and will market the right car as such.
If it is absolutely top of the league, low miles, low number of owners, very good service history then Hairpin are your men, ask for Charles. They have an excellent example on at the minute: http://www.thehairpincompany.co.uk/car-Mercedes-28...
Hairpin only deal in the very best of cars.
I have no interest in either company but they are both people that I know. Fair and very honest businessman who will give your friend/client a true and honest value. They are also both out of town so their costs are lower but they both advertise in C&SC and Octane so your audience is maximised.
Do let me know where it ends up as Mrs 911 has been interested in a RHD Pagoda for a long time and I have been holding out for a 280 otherwise I would have snapped up Richard's 230.
All the best and hope to hear from you, Tom (Hillary)
