Hi all,

The missus picked up an absolutely stunning example of a 10' C63 saloon yesterday and I'm trying to see if she got a better deal than we thought we did. The history for the car includes a line in the spec/ options stating 'Performance Pack' and there is also a line in there along the lines of 'Engine Power Increase'. The car has the red calipers, crossed drilled and slotted steel discs ('upgrade'?!), carbon boot lip spoiler, Alcantara and leather steering wheel and 19" multi spoke wheels. From what I can gather, although there seems to be confusion, the Performance Pack Plus is the above plus the engine internal changes and power increase which you can see, but also includes ceramic composite front discs. So, does the car have the PPP or 'just' the PP?

Incidentally, it also has the option LSD fitted...

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Yup. She got PPP car. PP came with LSD as standard. PPP does not.

ecain63 - Thanks for the confirmation. I've also edited my initial post following an increase in my understanding of the front brake discs. Mercedes state 'composite' by which them mean aluminium bells and steel rotors. Not (carbon) ceramic as I had interpreted.

I've also read about the 'Driver Package' which rings a bell so I will check the spec sheet for that. The eventual cost of the front discs aside, she got a better deal than first thought!

I bought a PP car recently and did a lot of research about the front disk situation - the wide consensus was that the standard C63 rotors will fit right onto the PP/PPP cars and that you only really notice the difference on the track anyway, so if you arn't going to track the car you could go for the much cheaper (and actualy very reasonable) ones if you need to replace.

How are you enjoying your car otherwise? I am finding the ride a little too fidgety but will live with it for the LSD and nicer wheels (which I am having repaired today since I curbed them!).

The ride shouldnt be fidgety, so check tyre pressures, depth and wheel alignment.

My car would start to tramline when the fronts went down to <3mm so would replace them ASAP.

With good tyre, pressures and alignment it should be perfect even on cambered B roads.

Unlike my new 640d with runflats which is hideous on crappy roads!

maybe using the wrong words - it is just very firm and bumpy. No tramlining.

Front tyres are about to be replaced though - if they ever arrive.

It's my understanding that the standard C63 discs don't meet Merc regs for the PPP car and will void any warranty or insurance claim made as a result of brake failure or error if you fit them. That's what Brooklands told me when i asked.

To me fitting the 'standard' discs is a no no, whether they fitted or not. Why go to the extent of maintaining the MB service history etc and keep up the other running costs to scrimp on the brakes? It's not as though you change the discs every 12k miles...
I've found a place that stocks the discs and pads for £1250 which I thinks reasonable. We'll use them when the time comes.

Incidentally, I thought I post up some of my findings as this information seems to be so fragmented.

Performance Pack (PP) includes: LSD, Alcantara and nappa leather steering wheel, aluminium trim, 10% uprated suspension. This was available on the early cars (2008/ 2009).

Performance Pack Plus (PPP) includes: Alcantara and nappa leather steering wheel, carbon boot lip spoiler, lighter forged pistons, newly developed rods and revised crank (saving 3Kg's and shared with the SLS), power increase of 30bhp, dark grey rocker cover, composite (alloy bell, steel rotor) front brake discs and red calipers all round.

Performance Pack Plus doesn't include: uprated suspension or the LSD.

The LSD is an option on the PPP cars, the suspension upgrade is not. 19" multi spoked wheels are an option on both.

Think that's it.

Oh and yes enjoying the car immensely. Don't think we'll ever get tired of the start up routine.
