Good Morning all,

I have as a company vehicle a 63 plate C220 CDI, great car for the mileage that I do and pretty good on fuel for the pace it can do when required a pretty good all rounder all in all.

I have just got to 35k miles and just had the rear tyres replaced which I was amazed that its got ti this mileage on the original tyres and the fronts still have 4mm left so the lease firm wont change them yet.

However what surprised me was its just had its Inspection 2 service, and the have replaced the disc and pads all round. Admittedly this is in my opinion is the garage taking advantage of the lease hire firm, as I looked at the pads when they changed the tyres.

I haven't ever had a car that spends most of its time on the motorway having discs and pads replaced before a set of tyres!

Anyone else found that these are particularly heavy on brakes, I know they probably are due to the auto box, highlighted by the amount of break dust produced.

Does anyone else think this is excessive.

Are yours the drilled type on the AMG Sport? If so you did well. Mine had it's first new discs at 20k miles and it was me taking into be done as they sounded shot , not part of a service. When they checked them (and they showed me) they had had it.

Thank you for the response, and no its not the AMG spec drilled version, sadly mine is just an SE executive, so the standard non drilled vented discs. Sounds like they like to eat brakes then!

I have had a company "12" plate C220 CDI since September. Last week I had new discs and pads all round (and two new tyres) at 54K. Leasing company advised that this was the first disc change.

Agree on the brake dust; huge amounts of it.

Like Stumpage mine only lasted 20k (C250 AMG Sport), disc and pads.

Apparently the discs are recognised as a consumable these days due to the compound of the brake pads....... I did have a good moan at the service manager saying discs should last about 80k, and you don't hear of Audi/BMW drivers suffering these additional costs. He did tend to agree with me, and said that it was a common complaint on the C class.

I've covered just under 30k miles in my 12 plate C350 and had the wheels off to clean last week. I was pleasantly surprised to find there was hardly any wear on the discs. Based on what I saw, I would expect the discs to last at least the same again or probably more although the pads have maybe another 5 or 6k left in them.
Tyres on the C350 are a different matter though!
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the discs are being replaced prematurely by the service garage. I always go on condition and actual wear measurement.

My pads / discs were fine on my old C350 CDI after 35k miles.

Remember that if you change discs you need to change the pads too, so many dealers like to change them at the same time.

Personally I would get the discs inspected and just change the pads unless the discs are really fecked.

I think <30k miles for discs is unusual.
