Just collected my C63 on Saturday it's a 2012 '62'with 5300 miles on the clock and I've noticed especially on start up its kicking out a bit of white smoke and there is a slight burning smell too,is this normal or should i be concerned?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like condensation in the exhaust???
Maybe just the smell of the CATS.

Maybe check the Diff seals too. Mine had a leaking Diff seal and you could smell burning because the oil was dripping on the exhaust.....only once the car was warmed up though and the exhaust was hot

Hard to tell from your description.

Have you had large engine cars before? They're burning a lot of fuel at idle and will kick out a lot of exhaust - which, condensation mixed in, results in plumes of smoke for a while until everythings warm. Does the smoke continue when warmed up?

The three large V8's I've had can , on a coldish morning whilst warming up, have enough smoke out the back that I can't see the car behind me through the rear window when stationary at a junction.

No idea on the burning smell. Where are you when you smell it? Again to a degree big engine - gets very hot - so some warm engine smells quite pervasive at the front of the car when outside.

With an apology for causing you undue alarm as it's unlikely - you are aware of the head bolt issues on the c63? I'm no mechanic but coolant leaking into the engine would probably result in smoking from the exhaust as well. I'm sure it's not this - but to make you aware.

Mine does smoke loads on a cold morning like the above post states.

However, head bolt wise you should be OK as the affected range is all pre-face lift and you would quickly get a low coolant warning.

Thanks for the replies guys, regarding the diff seals i would hope this is unlikely as the car was bought from a mercedes main dealer through the approved used car scheme so i would hope that would have been picked up during the workshop checks??
I haven't owned a big engined car before not to this extent anyway, my previous car was a focus rs.
When i was parked on the drive i started the car with the window down as my daughter was stood at the garden gate and the smoke came down the sides of the car not huge amounts but enough to notice and my daughter started wafting her hand going eerrrgh and the second occasion was a friend of mine was stood at the back of the car when i started it and he said 'what's that burning smell?'i was just hoping it was condensation and fuel as it starts with a burst of revs but it's always good to hear other views on it.

Sounds plausible. If it's on the merc approved scheme then it should be under warranty - so just keep an eye on it if you're concerned.

More importantly - enjoy the car smile

Lovely bit of kit!

Cheers, yes 12mths warranty left hopefully it will be something and nothing.
I'm sure i would enjoy it more if i didn't have to park it anywhere i despise car parks with a passion i always park as far away from anything else as humanly possible but i always seem to attract those who can't help but park 6in away from your door lol
