Considering changing my C250d Coupe for a CLS220d ......... my only concern is will I really notice the down size in engine, the car spends most of its time in traffic sitting on the A1 heading into Wembley in the morning, and only gets a run on the way home..... it's basically work transport so not really used in anger....... just think the bigger sized car would be more comfortable

Considered the 350d, but can't get the numbers to stack up.

With their being plenty of E220's about I think the engine should powerful enough for everyday use....... am I right in thinking this ?

Yes. The 220CDi is more than adequate for everyday driving, I have the E class. However there are so many 250's about you might as well go for one. The extra bhp and torque particularly is very noticeable performance wise, and they are just as economical as the 220 so it's a no brainer really.

It's the same capacity 4 pot engine so refinement wise there is nothing in it.

Better to have what you don't use, than want it but haven't got it.

unfortunately they have dropped the 250 from the new range, otherwise that is what I would go for

Didn't realise that. The C class is smaller than the E so the 220 will have more than enough performance for normal commuting and motoring.

we have an e220 bluetec estate and it is fine: 177hp 400 Nm

not fast, but keeps up with traffic and does its job

The CLS is based on the E class chassis that is why I was making the comparison..... I realise I aint going to be as quick as my current car

The 220 can be remapped to 250 output levels for under £300
