W124 front passenger electric window not working
Discussion
Hi all
First of all, I am utterly clueless about vehicle electrics, so assume nothing.
As title , front passenger window on the latest acquisition isn't working. I was going to just buy a 2nd hand switch off Ebay and try fitting that - but if I put my ear to the door while pressing the switch in the centre console I can hear a clicking from inside the door.
Can I assume that this means the switch itself is definitely not the problem?
Thanks

You can swap the drivers side switch across to eliminate that.
Most common issue is that the powerful motor wears through the teeth of the regulator mechanism so when you hit the button the motor is still turning but it has nothing left to engage with. Sometimes if you get someone to push the button whilst you give it a helping hand down then it might grip the next few teeth and start going. If that happens then you know you need a regulator.
The motors do also sieze up sometimes. Occasionally a tap with a hammer whilst being powered up can free them up.
Best thing to do is get the door panel off and you'll quickly find which piece you need.

Just to clarify, when I say clicking I mean a faint click when I press the switch, not a sort of continuous clicking like teeth not meshing or whatever.
I am pretty reluctant to remove the door card because the interior is in near perfect condition and I'm sure I'll damage something or not get the card to fit back properly.
On other 124s I've had I'd have a go but really want to keep this one in as good condition as possible - so might have to pay someone to sort this time.
