I'm considering the above as next family car but can't find any reviews, especially for the post-facelift Blue Efficiency version. Looks like a pretty amazing power unit in terms of efficiency for the power (I'm talking about the petrol here by the way). I can't justify a C63 and I'm wondering whether this could be seen as a 'junior' version?

Anyone any direct experience or can point to any reviews?

It's okay but I wouldn't call it amazing as I think both the 330d and 335d offer better engines.

I had the C350 with the 230bhp engine and my dad has the new C350 with 265bhp. It's a smooth and refined unit and good for 40mpg, you'll maybe squeeze 50mpg on a long run. I found the steering a little light too.

I think you may be referring to the diesel with those bhp and mpg figures (and comparison to 330d and 335d), C350 petrol of that era that the OP refers to should be 300bhp.

Yes that is correct - I am referring to the petrol version - a rare beast I think. I am considering as an alternative to BMW 330i / 335i.

I'd try researching American publications. I found this short review here: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2012-mercedes-...

If you can find one (hardly any were sold here, the market being obsessed with diesel), I suspect that while fast (C&D suggest low 5sec to 60), its abiding characteristic will be refinement. Having bought only diesels for the last fifteen years, most people have no idea how much more refined a multi-cylinder petrol engine is. In terms of BIK tax and lease costs (all that matters for most), the C350 is at least twice as expensive as a comparable diseasel, which explains why they didn't buy it.

The stats look pretty impressive:-

I've got the pre-face lift C350 so no Blue Efficiency and running only 268bhp:-

I've got the estate version and love it. The engine pulls like a train so that later 305bhp version would be amazing. Mine is already much quicker than my old Golf R32 and BMW 330xi. Servicing and parts seem fairly reasonable. The only real downsides are MPG (but looks like the Blue Efficiency is much better) and Vehicle tax at 500 quid a year which is a joke. However you might end up still wishing you had bought the C63 instead like me.

Would also love a C63 but too much to spend and keep unfortunately. Plus not the most subtle of cars, which is something I really love about the C350 - who would think it could do 0-60 in 5.5s or 155mph? Just looks like any other diesel which for me is part of the attraction...

Yep, I would say those figures are easily achievable. Mine came with "Evolution AMG Sport Pack" which adds a sport button and turns it from a smooth cruiser into a bit of an animal. The launch is hilarious, it just goes, no wheel spin, just powers towards the horizon.

I did 147mph in my old Golf R32 on the Autobahn (was a Swiss registered car) but this 3.5ltr engine in the C350 seems so much more powerful.

I've got a CLS with the 350 petrol engine. Over 300 hp, nice engine. Quiet and economical when needed (40mog is easy). It really shifts when you want it to, but the power is up the rev range, it's got plenty of torque low down but you need to stretch it for a full hit.

That's still listed on Autotrader. Looks like a good car for the money.
