Given the choice of a W124 Coupe or a CLK 230, which one?

Are you sure you don't want auto? The 5G in the CLK320 is a great combo.
Interestingly, MB did make the SLK320 manual with the same engine and there are people out there who have made their CLK manual using the SLK parts.
There's a very good reason why the CLK320 is auto though, all proper cars only have 2 pedals.
The W124 coupe is an excellent choice, but go for the 300-24v or the 320. Lots more grunt than from the original M103 300ce.
