SLK 171 useless headlights

Hi

I have a 2009 171 SLK 350. The dipped headlights are next to useless, the main beam is not brilliant but just ok

Is this normal?

They are bad on my 2008 CLK 350 too. Different model but same issue! I suspect it's normal. You could upgrade the bulbs to higher output halogens?

I've had more powerful torches, both Mrs Cheese and myself continually comment how poor the headlights are usually just after a Range Rover has passed in the other direction and just fried our retinas...

Yes, Mrs 645 had one and I put Osram Nightbreakers in and they were much better, awful job though unless you have tiny hands and hyper mobile joints!

They're no better on the 172.

My CLS is the same, thought the dipped beams were broken after the Xenons on the 350Z, thought that they would be ok but I think I was just used to Xenons, I ordered some nightbreakers but they have been wrapped for Christmas for me, the main beam is more or less ok.

Yes, they are a pig to do but it's just swapping the headlight bulbs.
