Hi guys,
I am in the market for a c class saloon or estate 2006 to 2012, can those with the knowledge advise me of the ones to avoid ie. engine type etc. not fussy if petrol or diesel; I do about 10000 a year mostly local trips of twenty miles or so with some motorway runs.
Much appreciated

I would go for a petrol one, less problems. Also try and get one built in South Africa. If you open the drivers door on one of the plates it should tell you where it was made. The South African ones of that era tend to be better quality as they did alot of quality control research in that particular factory and won awards for workmanship etc.

Make sure the auto box has been serviced although if it hasn't don't be too surprised as when first built they were considered sealed for life but definitely need servicing once every 4 years or 30-40000 miles. An auto box service is only about £125 so if it hasn't had one done then if you buy it get it done pronto.

This is all assuming you went for a 2006-2007 W203 model of course. Not sure about the W204's.

Thanks for that, although I am curious about diesels being more trouble. I have had a ml270cdi for five years now and it has been totally relable, and in that time has only cost me four tyres a set of rear pads and a new clutch on the alternator pulley.
