I've recently purchased a W212 (2012 model), with the COMAND Sat Nav system.

TBH, the traffic reporting is driving me mad. It has a function that reports traffic problems on your route:

"On the M6, between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, traffic problems. Average speed 20 mph"

Flicking through the menus, there's an option to switch this off. But, it doesn't stay off.

On a drive from Leeds back to home yesterday this was giving me a couple of seconds music, a traffic announcement, a couple of seconds of music..... etc. And it won't switch off. Does anyone know how to permanently disable these announcements??

If you mean on the radio itself, pressing (and holding till it beeps) the mute button does this.

If you mean the sat nav person, press the mute whilst she's talking and that will stop it. Press it again when you want her back.

As well as what Dave has said press the mute on the steering wheel you could also have the option in the memory to turn traffic announcements off.

Ahh,thanks guys. I'll give this a try the next time I use the SatNav. It's not something I use that often, so never really paid much attention to it - until the moment when it wouldn't stop talking!

On mine (2009) pressing mute when she's talking stops that message, but it doesn't stop her piping up again five minutes later...

You have to hold it down till the message appears saying "navigation instruction now muted".

Ah, cunning.

Does it kill off route instructions too though?

Does both, if the TMC report is playing it stops that, if the nav voice is playing it shuts her up.

What I'd really like is a way to switch TMC reports off, permanently. Seems that there isn't an option for this though, and we have to turn them off every time we use the Nav system.

So you lose one but keep the other?

And how do you turn it back on? If you've switched off TMC and you press and hold again, won't you just turn nav directions off?

No clue, I turn off all voice notifications as soon as I get a new car.

TMC or RTTI will still come up, but the radio traffic and vocal announcements are simply muted, along with nav directions.
