SLK AMG 55 Brake Replacement
Discussion
Hi All
After some advice.
I have a 2008 facelift with the Sport/030/P30 package.
The front discs are shuddering quite hard now and I have measured the run out with a dial gauge it is definitely warped.
They are 6 pot calipers on a floating drilled and slotted disc.
Any idea's on cost of replacement both merc original and after market.
I see tarox ox offer a replacement.

I can strongly recommend Tarox I bought a set for my Phaeton because the OEM fitted had warped, to date they have performed impeccably and are worth the extra.

Although on e-bay there is a company offering OEM discs and pads at a good discount, if Tarox eventually make replacements discs for my SL63 I would buy them over OEM personally.

If you can live without the Floating Discs then you can get EBC discs for around £200.00

Doing a bit of research on disc replacement as my slk55 will need fresh discs at the end of this year. I come across these tarox rotor replacements for the slk55 AMG http://www.tarox.co.uk/product/front-tarox-brake-d... I am also going to contact hispec brakes to see if they have a replacement rotors.
I'm fussy with cars and like the look of rotors behind the wheels so I will be replacing with rotors. The tarox items are £504inc vat which isn't bad imo.

I guess the bell housings don't really deteriorate so that looks to be a very good idea. I'm guessing a good clean and checking of the nuts and bolts holding the discs to the bell housing will be required. Like I have said the quality of Tarox discs is superb.I'm fussy with cars and like the look of rotors behind the wheels so I will be replacing with rotors. The bolts that bolt bell to disk corrode badly due to heat and weather. As an experiment I tried to undo them. All either rounded off or snapped. I guess one could try soaking the assembly in penetrating oil for a couple of days, but I'm still doubtful this would be successful.rubystone said:

Does anyone know if the 2008 SLK AMG has the same size discs as the earlier cars that fitted the 6 pot calipers ?
Option code 030 cars should have identical 360mm composite discs front with 6 piston calipers.Non-option 030 cars would have:
pre-FL: 340mm 6-piston
FL: 345mm 4-piston
If you haven't found discs yet let me know and I can check the German SLK Forum. The SLK55 is more widespread in Germany and the brakes topic has been discussed many times, including sourcing of parts.

They assume me they are 340mm .. I measured them at 345mm but it was not an accurate measurement as I did not remove the disc.
I also ordered the bells as well from tarox as I figured the extra time taken to remove all the bolts and fit new bolts would push up the price. Merc do not sell the rotor bolts. Only complete rotor assemblies.
Also ordered tarox pads and some goodrich braded hoses.
