What do people think?

No indication of price but Benzworld poster has indicated that FB has the cost at £100k.

Powertrain mods definitely interesting, surprised it can sit 80mm (3+ inch) lower.

I saw this in the first edition of their recent mag. I kind of like the idea of the handling upgrades, but not keen on the external changes, then again I do like standard.

I do love the quote I once read on here about a 107's handling; 'you don't so much steer a 107, as sail it'! Very apt in my experience, but I have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected, all things considered. Never driven a pre facelift, so do wonder what they're like?

That sounds like a lot of power from a SOHC 12v engine.

Lovely thing no doubt, but if £100k is right a lot of dough.

Just sold it back to SL Shop if anyone wants a near perfect 3 owner 72k mile 300SL with loads of new bits including complete suspension, bushes, engine mounts etc.

Excellent, it did make me chucklesmile

Why did you sell, any plans for a replacement?

It was time for a change. Not sure what to get next next but more likely to be work on the house rather than a car frown

I think the engine mods are fascinating. There is something so much more sophisticated and satisfying about a traditionally tuned normally aspirated straight six compared to the dumb blunderbuss approach of slotting in a big fat forced induction V8. I'm sure that m103 really sings a beautiful tune. Now put it in a w201 chassis...

The aesthetic changes are not to my taste and I suspect the suspension drop is a little more than I'd go for.

Precisely this. I'm in the tuned-straight-six club. It may have been alluded to before, but I can't help but think the 3-litre 24v M104 (essentially a multi-valve 103) might be the way forward. It's an extra 40bhp boost, for little weight gain.

I like this back-date car though, as with the 911, I'm sure we'll see this updated retro movement gather pace; what next?

And the M104 is based on the same block as the M103 so had common mounting points. Drops straight in you would think if you did as much research as reading that sentence, which is more or less how much I did before starting my R107 M103 to M104 swap. It does fit sort of....
