Hi, what does everyone think of the A45? Thinking about jumping into one soon.

Does anyone have any links to AMG owners clubs? I found some generic MBenz clubs with an AMG section and a dedicated German AMG club so far.

Map it. Mine ran a regular 3.3/3.4 to 60 and 8.1/8.2 to 100.

Haha, that is serious acceleration ... but I value the warranty and won't take a chance. The standard car is as quick as my old 5LV8 TVR Griffith - albeit without the lovely noise - and that was rapid enough for me. I won't track it so B road driving will be good enough fun as std. Still quicker than a Golf R hehe

Find me an A45 that has needed warranty work due to stage 1 mapping and your point is valid. Many dealers are map and mod friendly so you really have no excuse to keep it stock. The map really does release what MB had originally created and then reigned back.

Is 381hp really reigned back on a 2L engine ? Cant be by much surely ... ?

435bhp with the map is easily managed by the stock engine and turbo. I did over 100 launches and had no issues. Did Vmax, 1/4 mile and some....... no problems at all. No cars i know of have had issues with the 4 pot after mapping. AMG designed this engine for 450bhp initially and bench tested it. It ran fine in all conditions. 380 is nothing for a proper forged block.

I've had my Pre-facelift for 2 months. I came out of a 135i Coupe. I'll be honest I regret it. I went for it as I thought it would be step up in performance but other that 0-60 time I don't think it is. Its quite unrefined compared to the 135i.

The added practicality was also a big seller as my daughter is growing fast, but there's plenty of other options for that.

I'll stick with for now obviously, maybe I'll grow to love it.

When you say unrefined how do you mean ? The ride ?

I'll agree, the A45 when stock doesn't 'feel' fast. It boosts so smoothly that you don't get that might thump you associate with evos etc. I guarantee that if you tested the 135i against the A45 you'd see the difference. Map the A45 and it's leagues ahead

The pre FL A45 AMG I drove flew at 5K upwards ... far more so than my Z4 35iS. The Z4 was quicker low down and the power easily accessible but the A45 felt more fun. 340bhp BMW 3L straight 6 versus in line 4 2l with 355bhp ... yet the Merc felt loads more fun - thus I am buying a FL on Saturday - that can only be better than the one I drove so I can't wait. The demo car only had 2K on it too !

No the ride is ok, similar to the 135i really. I mean the engine note is harsh and not exactly a nice sound. Exhaust pops and stuff is entertaining. Its feels a bit gutless low down I guess I was spoilt with the torque of the big 3.0l six in the 135I. The A45 is certainly stronger at high revs of that there is no doubt, but I would bet power would be higher for the entire rev range in the Beemer until about 5500revs....

The other thing that doesn't help is the lower gears are so low, 2nds on the limiter at 45mph I think. im not saying its a bad car its just not for me.

The idea of a remap is all very well but given its 10months old, I don't fancy risking all that warranty.

Oh and the mpg figures are a joke. This is significantly worse on fuel than the 135i, despite the official figures saying the opposite should be true.

Well, I have ordered an AMG A45 this afternoon so will get to find out properly all about the ride, the engine, the trim level etc etc in due course ... sadly I now have to wait for it to be built. I have been given a date at the end of May ... so I guess the next 2 'ish months will go very slowly.
