AMG 7 speed auto box

I know a lot has been written about slow throttle response with the 7 speed auto box but I am starting to wonder if my gearbox needs attention. I have had a couple of near misses now when pulling onto roundabouts and getting a long delay (feels like several seconds) between pressing the accelerator and actually moving off. Surely the AMG box should respond quicker?

Interesting that my AMG has done similar. This happened after it had been with MB for a few weeks with gearbox issues and cooling pumps were replaced but they won't acknowledge its slow or dangerous and then launches you across the road unexpectedly

DCT boxes are prone to this - My BMW box does it every now and then. It seems as you come up to a roundabout that it gets a bit confused at what point to change into 1st from 2nd and you get a pregnant pause - normally when you just go to accelerate. 2nd would have been fine but the box it in the process of thinking about going into 1st. You almost free wheel onto the roundabout and the delay is somewhat scary !!

It doesn't happen much thankfully. I think it has done it to me 3 times in 2 years - always roundabouts. I have read the issue elsewhere on BMW forums though oddly not VAG ... and my DSG Golf a few years back (2008) never did it.

I just don't think it is solely a MB issue.

Have AMG come out with a DCT box now? In my CLK63 the 7 G-Tronic box was a wet clutch automated manual 'box. I believe that the latest versions of that 'box are a lot less sluggish than mine was, but sometimes, the sluggishness was actually the TC working overtime!!!

Sorry, I meant the DCT box. Yes, the A45 certainly has it. 7 speed.

I had the same problem on my E63 (facelift 2013) and so did at least one other PH member. It happened twice in the same circumstances you have described above. MB never acknowledged or identified the fault but it made me lose faith in the car and MB generally.

I'd be surprised if they bolted that to the big engines though...but I'm slightly out of touch there now....anyone????

In 2012 Merc replaced the 7g with the 7gMCT gearbox on the big engined AMG models which I believe is a dct style gearbox but with multi clutch plates instead of just two.
Easily identified with 4 drive modes instead of just 3 and the ability to do Race Starts ( launch control )

The one I'm having trouble with is the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic.

Have you thought it might be something to do with the fly by wire throttle control.

On my gearbox I've just had the latest updates loaded and the adaptives reset, it makes a big difference especially in C mode
