Hi All,
Looking at a very low mileage SL500 ( 2007) excellent car , 2 owners full Merc service history, only issue is the boot seal on the area where the bottom of the rear glass window meets this seal,
the seal is loose and easily lifts away,
the boot is perfectly dry so no concerns over the electrics in the boot, that maybe due to the car been garaged,
l have spken to a few so called specialists who's comments differ widely, some say just replace the top edge seal, others say you need to replace the whole rear seals at a cost of £1500,
Anybody expierenced this,
Your comments welcome,
Thanks

There are some bodgers who reckon these can be fixed for a tenner.
The fix lasts about 10 minutes in reality.
You need to replace all the seals to fix it properly, but also the piece of metal under the rear window can rust although i suspect yours being a 2007 may be less prone to this.
You will doubtless get follow up posts saying people have DIY fixed it and calling me a d1ckhead, up to you whether you listen to them or not.
At the end of the day it's really what you value the car at that will decide!

You just can't let it rest, a bit sad really. Get on with life instead of brooding about the fact that others haven't snapped up your advice without question and have tried alternative remedies, some of which work and some that don't.The fix lasts about 10 minutes in reality.

I have glued some of my seals back in position as recommended by my local Mercedes dealership, despite the fact they could have made a lot of money from me by saying the only solution is to replace, and it has worked

Go figure, and stop sulking you big girls blouse

There you go OP, the first of the bodgers has arrived. I have glued some of my seals back in position as recommended by my local Mercedes dealership, despite the fact they could have made a lot of money from me by saying the only solution is to replace, and it has worked

It's not a matter of letting it rest, it's a matter of giving the OP the right advice so he doesn't **** his car up.
You may have bodged yours up on the back of some half wit's advice from a main dealer (like they have such a good rep LOL), but that's up to you, the OP may want to keep his car A1. Your fix will not last. That is a fact. In fact I hope it ends up costing you a fortune, you deserve it!

Thank you for your kind thoughts and best wishes
Edited to add, the irony is that if the original seals were any good the leaks wouldn't occur anyway, so you can either buy a tube of glue for a solution that won't work, or spend £1500 on anther set off new seals that won't work. You make your choices........................

Or do what I do, use glue and keep the car garaged out of the rain.

The new seals are a different design, but never mind.. you know best!
