To G or not to G ??

Hi Guys,
I currently have a CLA 220cdi but after just having our first child and realising the amount of s@*t, sorry baby stuff that is required I think I need a larger vechile.
Whilst I like range rovers, they don't have the same appeal as a G Wagon, hence the title, get what I done there.
So I was wondering if anyone on here would have some advise on getting a G.
Im aware a large majority at LHD which I don't think is a problem since it's the size of a tank, would want the LWB version also.
Thinking down the lines of the G400, however have also read some horror stories there, any advise welcome.

Wifey has a G Wagon and loves it - as do many that see it.
Not the most comfortable of rides and a bit heart stopping if you try to throw it round bends but the car is not about that, its about cruising with that "I can go anywhere" feeling.
They have a cr4p steering lock and are a bit small inside but that said, you park in 4 goes instead of 3 and they never feel too big in traffic, unlike Range Rover.
They are sub zero on the kool front, very rare and also hold their value well.
Bought it when they came back into UK in 2011 so its RHD with most of the toys.
Not my cup of tea but i have to admit, on the right day I sometimes take it out.......doesn't half make you feel good.

My wife has a G55 LHD, daily run in central London and no issue: visibility is super good
We have 2 little boys: newborn and 2yrs old, so have 2 baby seats and always have lots of stuff. The G trunk is so good, we never take the bugaboo apart or fold it, we just stick it in there as is - no issue, as there is plenty of space left for tennis bag and other stuff.
I can only recommend as a family wagon.

We run a G350 for 2 years back in 2012 having bought it brand new, great cars, but tiny inside, everybody loves them, people want to talk to you when you stop for fuel, my kids thought it was uber cool, and they were fun. However we were also running other things so this was not a first car as such. On a long journey they are hard work, heavy on fuel, and the technology is about 10 years out of date. If your heading towards a G400 the tech in them is 90's and it will feel ancient. Servicing cost are steep as well, I could really only recommend it if you have other stuff to run and its for local motoring. Putting all that aside it is a true motoring legend and over the winter of 2012 did some amazing things in the G it really does have amazing ability.
