Need a new load lugger, going to have a look at a 1998 and a 2000 E200 avantgarde later, never poked around one before, any particular known issues to be aware of?

Cheers mate, mostly visible rust or mostly nasty hidden rust? It does say on the previous MOT it has advisories for rust on rear subframe and rear suspension mounts but says 'but not considered excessive'

At the price if I got a year or two trouble free motoring out of it I'd consider it a win lol

If it wasn't excessive then, it probably will be by now. Also the front spring perches are known for deteriorating at a vast rate.

Be aware...

A relative had an E240 a few years ago.

Just after the warranty ran out it developed a variety of electrical faults, mainly related to the alarm and immobiliser causing the battery to go flat.

The most serious issue it had was that the radiator leaked coolant into the gearbox, costing thousands to put right.

After this, it was fine for around five years. The car was scrapped due to the differential failing and costing more than the value of the car to put right.

Rust and electrical issues.

We'e on our second W210 and have been owners of them (an E240 and then an E55) for over 10 years.

Cheers guys, forewarned and all that... had a poke underneath, rapidly stopped poking in case the back end fell on me. That'll be a 'no thanks' then...
