W124 interior mirror

This link to an eBay item illustrates my problem with an interior mirror.

I need to get the ball back in its socket but after an hour of faffing and puffing it has defeated me.

Either I am too wimpy or there is a Teutonic knack.

I've tried heating the socket with a hairdryer to no avail.

It is a really tight fit, I thought I was going to break the glass re-fitting one recently. Finally what got it in was a bit of lubrication on the ball (missus) and put the glass side face down on something soft-ish and just push!
