Hi
I have had mine for nearly two and I am getting another one the facelift version in Janaury
I went for stealthy route no Aero and it blends into traffic
Very fast and I have found to be great fun to drive
Grip is amazing and it covers ground very quickly in dry or wet
I use it everyday and the facelift version has adpative suspension now because the ride is sporty
MPG after 23,000 is an average 21.5 mpg I do not do alot motorway driving but when I do get 35-37 MPG
Servicing done by a service plan every 12,500 miles but Brakes are expensive and tryes are 270 a pair and fronts last 10,000 and rears 20,000
The dealer has been fine
I went for a test drive and I liked it if possible ask for 1 hr test drive on your own because it will grow on you.
make sure you test sports mode out and go for the performance exhaust
The A45 is marmite car Pistonheads alot of people slag it off but they have not driven it
I have had no gear box issues

Many Tks for feedback .
I'm curious to know why many slag it off as I have a pal that does the same claiming it's a chavvy car ?
The test drive I had was with a salesman but for a good 30 mins across lots of different terrain and I was enormously impressed whereas the test drive in the 140 was with a bird who gave me 10 mins and screamed slow down within the first 5 minutes !

The gearbox changes in the Amg are immense far quicker than the BMW which although I appreciate isn't DCT are still rapid .
I think the BMW will be the cheaper car to own/run however especially if I get unlucky with gearbox issues and I know the BMW is circa 50% of the Amg to service
My heart says Amg but my head says BMW .

I have had my FL A45 AMG since May and love it.

I have come from 5+ BMW's and considered waiting for the M140i but wanted 4wd and more oomph !

When I was deciding I saw loads of posts about two things - gearbox being poor and rattles.

I love the gearbox which is lightning quick and great IMO. I come from a Z4 35iS with DCT. I also love the 8 speed in the BMW though.

I have had zero rattles or other issues.

The car is superb and just beginning to loosen up nicely.

I did not go aero and wanted stealth + did not want the sports exhaust either as it would not have competed with my Z4 35iS with std BMW sports exhaust and straight six noise.

The only downside to me is the sound ... coming from the Z4 this was never going to compete ! It is fine though.

The car is relaxing and quick. I have adaptive suspension and that is good. In comfort it is totally fine, in sports it is sharp and the engine in sports is superb.

The car is wider than my Z4 which surprised me but has a lot of room inside. I went with the Premium model which has a panoramic roof which adds light.

Loads do seem to slag off the car but I feel - based on my own experiences - that most of these have not driven it !! Particular abuse comes about the gearbox when I can't believe those who slag it off have driven it as it really is IMO a sorted unit even if it wasn't when it first came out.

Nice one Tea Pot.

So my intended spec is Dynamic Drive plus so with more front turn in just in case having always come from RWD in case i get a whiff of understeer although fek knows why I'm panicking as I'm hardly a driving god!

The full alcantara steering wheel (because every driving god has one tongue out) , .
Non aero as I'm too old apparently !
Night pack
Sports exhaust although I'm beginning to think that maybe unnecessary
And that's about it.

Id only really want the command shift for the 3 dial display as i think it looks cool

Good to hear you've had no real gearbox issues although they do seem a little commonplace

I do like the 140 and it is without doubt on paper the smart choice but i have to say the AMG gets me more excited

Tell me I'm wrong pls!!!!!

You are not wrong ... I thought the A45 was more appealing thus I bought one ... after 5 BMW's ! The M140i is a cracking car though with a noise the A45 can only dream of !

Tis true. Will have to have back to back drives on the day i decide.

As much as the BMW is great the AMG is my object of desire if I'm honest. What i particularly like is the 'wolf in sheep's clothing' look of the AMG without the spoilers and just the v subtle AMG on the back.
Oh, plus those gear changes and sumptuous seats!

In your opinion is there any need for sports exhaust ?

Sounds like you have the best of the options matey.

Easy to get carried away on options but I'm sold on the LSD Lock . Thinking especially for winter driving the benefits of 4WD will be a stand out option.

Fantastic car especially the facelift version you are going for. Options wise go premium package (different body styling and pan roof), night package and dynamic plus.

The gearbox on the original pre-facelift car got some bad feedback RE: slow changedown speeds etc. There were gearbox revisions made for the facelift car.

We've a brand new A45, just delivered a fortnight ago, and we've found no issues with the 'box so far.

No car is perfect. Someone can always find some criticism. I think even the gearbox "issues" with the original were fairly minor in the grand scheme of things.

I don't personally think theres a need for dynamic plus and we didn't spec it.

Spec we went for, as follows :-

=> Panoramic Roof
=> Electric Memory Seats
=> Logic 7 sound upgrade
=> AMG Adjustable suspension (Selective Damping)
=> AMG Sports Exhaust
=> AMG 19 inch alloy wheel upgrade
=> Black door mirrors
=> Black front and rear splitters
=> Privacy Glass
=> Garmin Map Pilot
=> Harman Kardon Sound

One thing I would say is, don't order Garmin Map Pilot as the £550 option.

The car comes pre-wired for it, so all you need is the memory card to activite it. This can be bought for around £220 on Amazon (genuine Mercedes Map Pilot product) or off Ebay ("supposedly" genuine product but unboxed) for around £70

Good spec that .
How do you find the adjustable suspension compared to the standard setup ?
You get race mode with the adjustable suspension too ?
