Was just wondering if anyone has had a better experience with alternative tyres.

We run either Michelin pilots or Conti Winter Contacts.

The contis are squishier, the pilots are quieter.

My tyre of choice for my current E Class is the Dunlop Sport Maxx. They are quiet and grippy, but I probably pay in longevity.

Im currently on 4mm of continentals but they don't seem that quiet and are a bit fidgety on the front end when on undulated roads so good to get other opinions before I splash the cash..

The S212 is a very noisy cabin, but all the noise is in the rear, and 90% of it is tyre noise.

The OEM Merc (MO) stamped tyres are not good at all, I had Contis on mine and it was awful.

I swapped for Goodyear Efficient Grips and it transformed it.
They were rated as noise class 1 and had a DB rating of 68db, some 6db lower than the Contis, which is a massive difference.

They were also much softer over certain surfaces, transformed the ride.

I think the Crossclimates are 69db, so would definitely consider them.

I have Vred Winter Extreme S on my current S212, a bit soft in the summer, but quiet and comfy.

Mine came with Bridgestones from the factory, they seemed to have very stiff sidewalls meaning a hard unforgiving ride. They lasted ages, but I swapped the last of them out at around 30k miles with tread still on them as they were actually starting to split around the circumference of the tyre within the tread grooves themselves.

Now running Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 3 all round, no noticeable change in grip, great in standing water, much more comfortable ride, good sized rib/alloy protector around the sidewall, well priced for a decent quality tyre.

I run Michelin Crossclimates on my other car and rate them also, though the sidewalls are very soft and offer no alloy protection at all if that's important to you - though they are only 16" so perhaps that's different on the larger sizes

Couldn't believe how noisy the cabin was till I looked at the tyres, continental! Good tread still left, but the noise is getting on my nerves and planning to keep the car for about a year or so, just need a bit more of a relaxed comfortable ride,I don't tear the arse off the car so not looking for performance tyres just comfy quiet!

225.50.17 would be the obvious choice on an all season.
