C Class Estate
Discussion
As my slk32amg sleeps under a cover all winter and the arrival of 2 springers to the household my thoughts are drifting to a sensible replacement for the slk.
I am drawn to the c class estate 220 diesel and like the sound of the torque figures quoted at 295ftlbs.
Are there any owners reading this who could supply a few comments or recommendations about the car or model?

Hi.
I've had W204 and W205 versions of the C Class estate, both 220 CDI. Both were automatics and I think they are just a super car for every day use as they are adequately sized and incredibly versatile.
Both have been AMG Line models which I think is the best specification but 'horses for courses.'
My current car also has the Premium Plus spec pack which adds the sun roof and improved hifi and other goodies.
I love it to bits!
Performance is more than adequate and whilst not the fastest of all the estates on the road, it copes well with most conditions and needs.
Not sure what info you are looking for and happy to answer any specific concerns...

I've had my 2008 220 cdi for just over two years now. I still love it. My first auto and wouldn't go back to a manual for a 'boring' car now,
It has broken down twice on me. First fo the electronic steering lock or ESL which seems to be becoming a bigger issue over time. Second time the water pump s
t it's self on the M56 one night and threw the belt off.
To be honest the breakdowns have taken a bit of the shine off this car for me but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt still for now.
I think I said in another thread, if I was buying one again I'd look for a 7 speed with the upgraded speakers.

I've got a 2011 (facelift) C220 Sport BlueEfficiency. With the big f
k off AMG wheels. And its a manual (FML) lol.
I bought this after owning an E39 528 for 10 years so it was a big change for me.
What I don't like about the car is the manual box obviously. Mercedes seem to make a fairly agricultural manual box for some reason!
Its got the intelligent light system (which I love), and the handling is quite simply epic IMHO. The traction control is a waste of time as if you go for a quick pull away on the manual with say 2000 rpm, then its already delivering stump pulling loads of torque so its very easy to spin the back wheels.
Its very nice on a long run, I got 65 mpg on the way to Gatwick back in August at a steady 70 mph.
I cannot speak to reliability yet as I haven't owned the vehicle for long enough, but so far I really like the car and it looks lovely in the sport trim with the big wheels.

hi
got myself a '62 C250 estate (to replace the C63AMG estate that people broke into the house to try to nick!!) manual.
Got two collies so needed a workhorse - car is excellent, plenty of power (not exactly C63 class though
).
AMG line so a good spec, now out of warrenty, so use a local garage for servicing - not overly expensive.
I was surprised how quick it was, would not imagine much difference between 220 & 250.
cheers

Thanks for all replies I have been looking at the 250 with amg spec and I think it's what I'm after with plenty of torque plus plenty of room for the springers. One of my neighbours has the 200 estate and I have had a good look and test run he really rates it.
I just need to wave goodbye to the slk32amg in the spring, it will be difficult after 10 years of ownership and good driving experiences and managing to retain my licence! but it's had new wings all rust done total respray and wheel refurb before being put to sleep with a nice comfy cover.
