C Class: Too cheap?
Discussion
Hi, I'm looking at petrol C Class estates and noticed two examples that look good value...do these look too cheap to be true?

The first one is only a 1.6 - I didn't know they even did that but it looks right for the power figure vs the second one, a 1.8 - and the second one is manual, never popular on MB as the box isn't nice and, while you get used to the foot operated "hand"brake you get issues like wives refusing to drive them.
Having said all that, the prices do look low and a quick search on Autotrader has them a couple of £K less than comparable cars, especially bearing in mind they're being sold by garages rather than privately.

Red, underpowered, manual, cloth - just not desirable specification at all. Which is great if you don't mind any of that.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

I think (but do your own research if you're thinking of buying) that all the petrols use a simplex chain which is prone to stretch. The diesels use a duplex chain.
I have the previous version C Class estate but MB change things every 5 mins and I'm not familiar with these cars but I think that 1.6 is a 2013 model year car with 1.6 turbo petrol. In that case the power figure in the advert is wrong - it's 152BHP, rather than the 134 stated. The CO2 figure matches - 139g/km.

Your post sent me off to Auto Trader and you can get a decent E Class circa 2010 in Diesel Auto with alot of toys and leather, about 80k on the clock, for 10 grand or so. I was astonished that seems great value !http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...

Not sure if the E Class estate is in your search criteria but at that price, spec, and age, hard to ignore. With a private plate on it and a decent paint and interior detail it'd look a £20k car all day long.
Seems even better value than the C class petrols in discussion on this thread. is the 2.1 Diesel in this version of E-class a reliable well regarded unit?

Just be careful with that 'leather' - many cars came with Artico 'man made leather' - ie. vinyl. Awful stuff that has no place in a car like the E class, unless it's Munich taxi spec.Trabi601 said:

One persons awful stuff is another best friend. I actually like their Artico. Great with children, hard wearing, doesn't bubble up as much. Never had anyone get into our GL class saying they loved the vinyl on the seats and dashboard etc....And no cows killed for it either.Gassing Station | Mercedes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
