Hi all,

I'll be in a position to buy an A45 (new or used, not 100% sure due to various finance deals) this coming July/August.

The main reason for the purchase is I like to have a fun car, but also need something for a commute occasionally of 150 mile round trip. I guess the main question really is, what are the benefits in your opinion and what are the down sides?

What options would you say are best to go for and what would you steer clear of?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers
Sam

Thank you for this. In your experience, realistic mpg figures? (I know, not the best question relating to a hot hatch) and tires?

I worked at Mercedes when these first came about, so never really got to see any other than brand new ones

FWIW I have a Facelift A45 and it has been faultless. I read about slow to respond gearboxes and rattles yet find the box sharper than my BMW DCT and no rattles.

I only do a few miles each way to work so not good - 21mpg is all I am getting but the same route in my Z4 35iS saw 16mpg !

Very, very comfortable on a run due to the excellent seats. I opted for adaptive suspension and in comfort it is not too hard at all. Again, having read all I could about the pre facelift I was worried about how hard the suspension was. In reality it is of no concern at all.

My only gripe is the car doesn't actually feel that quick - odd I know for a car that is 376bhp but the 4wd makes it feel quite tame. Look at the speedo and that tells you otherwise.

We have a face lifted one, an awesome car you won’t be disappointed.
MPG's aren't good around town, I'm getting mid-teens!
On a 20 mile run, 28 MPG's but it's down to your right foot!!

What car are you coming from?

Everyone loves the sound of it, it is very intoxicating down to the blips, over run and when you change gear.

Doesn't it have 381bhp?

Thanks all, I'd like to say I'm a relatively cautious driver when it comes to going on a longer run.

I'm coming from an Abarth 595, big difference I know. When working at MB, the A/CLA45 really stuck out to me as being superior in its class and never really thought I'd be in a position to afford one. I'll be 21 at the point of purchasing, so not necessarily the normal age group for the kind of car it is. I just wanted something I can say 'I had one of those' before I go into a mid range Mondeo and a house

turn the stop start on, i got 24mpg this morning in london tube strike traffic

mag suspension (if not standard) is worth getting as it rides better, uprated exhaust, front diff as well as the aero pack are also must haves IMO

Only couple of thinks to add

MPG 21.5 over the two years
Tyres fronts just under 10,000 miles and rears just under 20,000 £270 for pair
Brakes front pads 12,000 miles £350
Rear disc and pads 18,000 £900
Get a service plan £36 per month

It will cost a bit run but smiles per miles it is worth it
