ML270 Key Crisis
Discussion
I did post this in GG but wanted to try here for more exposure......as at the moment I'm a bit stuck.
My wife has an '03 ML270 (W163).
Along the way we lost a key and was down to 1. The key is a 'flip' key and last week the flip mechanism snapped and so now we are left with the blade and the fob very separate from each other and pretty much unusable (the fob has the immobiliser in it...if we put the blade in the ignition barrel it will be virtually impossible to get it out and certainly won't be able to get enough purchase to start the car).
A pain, but no big drama we thought. Nip to Mercedes and get a new key....£200+ lighter in pocket. Fast forward to this morning and the key has been returned to the dealer who have told us they not longer replace these keys as they are so old and had no sympathy in the fact that we now have an expensive paperweight stuck on our drive.
I've googled replacement keys and got lots of results, but when you actually phone the place they tell me they don't do W163 replacement keys.....so here's my question.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement key from? I would prefer for them to be in the Huddersfield area and ideally come to me. I DON'T want to have to send the key away - as knowing my luck at the moment it will get lost and then I can't even unlock the car.
Please don't just google and send me a link - I've tried probably 20 different companies and I'm struggling. I can't be the only person who needs a key for a W163, so appreciate some help please for someone who has a confirmed purchase or even a company on here who can help me.
Thanks fellow Pistoners

I'm sure I read that (due to popular request) MB are making these keys again.
There was an article in the MB Club Gazette a few months back.
Suggest you try another dealer.
I think it was W140 and R129 owners that were affected by this. I recall reading somewhere that the original supplier had gone out of business but that Mercedes have found a new supplier. I hear now that W140 owners in the USA are struggling as it appears US market cars have their fobs supplied by a US supplier (even though they look identical). I find it hard to believe Mercedes would not pursue another source of ML fobs given that the cars are younger than W140 and R129s and there are probably more of them still on the road. There was an article in the MB Club Gazette a few months back.

As 55palfers suggests I would try another dealer. Shaun at Mercedes Benz Poole is clued up and highly regarded by those in the club:
