I'm looking at buying a 2011ish S212 in the next few months. I'm happy with the car and most of the standard equipment, but I'm finding the audio options an absolute minefield. I'm hoping I can get a definite answer here, as my research so far hasn't left me feeling like I know what i want.

I want to be able to stream audio (Spotify, mostly) straight to the car's system. Is this something that's available on this model/year?

From what I can gather, I need the COMAND system. Is that the case?

Cheers.

Not sure if this helps but I have a w212 with comand online. This allows me to stream from the phone as well as use sd card, memory stick, hard drive, data cable connection for iPhone. It also allows use of apps loaded onto the system and taking data from a tethered phone but I have not tried this.

I have a W204 with NTG4.5 Comand. I just use bluetooth to play Spotify and Audible from my Android phone, and it works really well. To be honest I don't know if you need Comand for full use of BT though?

Pauses/resumes around calls, nav etc. No problems changing tracks/skipping, though it has an odd habit of shuffling my Spotify playlists in a strange way. Things like 6 tracks of the same album in a row, which it never does when I listen to the playlist elsewhere. The only issue is that it occasionally gives up after say 20+ track changes within ~30 minutes, and usually, will not resume by pushing the control dial to play/stop from the BT Audio screen, needing a discreet unlock and tap of the play button wink

I wouldn't bother with Comand Online. I remember reading about difficulty getting it to work on some phones? It connects, or at least used to connect, to the phones in some archaic manner? (I should know what, but slips my mind). As far as I know the only real form of Spotify integration is through support for Apple Carplay, which I'm not sure is available outside the US yet?

I had a V60 previously, and an LG running 4.0 ICS; it would only ever work properly with a particular audiobook app I use for .m4b files. With Spotify you had a 50% chance getting it to change track if.. I connected/started things up in very specific order. Audible generally worked fine as soon as you opened it, but the most of the time changing track or skipping in anything but the audiobook app would open and start the default Android music app playing?!!

When I bought the C-Class I still had the same phone, and had no audio control whatsoever via any controls in the car, not even volume. I bought a new phone running Marshmallow and everything suddenly worked perfectly, so I suppose the problems I had before were some sort of BT audio protocol or Aptx issue

It might be worth asking to give it a test at some point, just to be sure that it plays nicely with your phone.
