SL55 AMG Buying Advice? What to look for?
Discussion
Hi,
Looking for a SL55 AMG. Just starting the hunt. Any advice on what to look for? I've hear early cars can need all the rubber seals replaced? And to look out for water in the boot?
Also, were there any updates? I know the cars got paddles behind the steering wheel for example after a certain point, but not sure when?
Were there any recalls on the cars for example?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Fantastic cars and good luck with your search
When i was looking i wanted a 2006 face-lifted car (517bhp) They are quite sensitive to colour schemes silver over black or black over black probably being the most popular.
History and condition is everything on these - mileage less so IMO. Mime had impeccable main dealer history but still suffered an ABC pump and EIS failure not long after buying. The horror stories aren't really warranted in my opinion as if you're used to the cost of servicing and repairing supercars - the SL55 is no different. Things to look fo:
Roof operates correctly - have roof seals been replaced with updated variant? - hence check for damp in boot
ABC and it's history - when was ABC pump last replaced - any struts etc
SBC and it's history
Engine is pretty bullet proof
Check all electrics as there are many many control units on this car
Given it's age, i still cannot believe how fast these things are. A gratuitous photo of mine. 2006 (56), 56k miles, Black over black leather, carbon inlays, 19" option wheels, pan roof
