Stuck in low gear

Hi can. some one help me my cl500 is stuck in. low gear 3 rd. i. also get a clunk when. i. shift from drive. reverse any. pointers. as to what. this might be. thanks paul car cl500 2001

Sounds like low oil level to me, possibly leaking from the gearbox plug connector seals. That'd be first place I'd look anyway.

Is this a 5 speed box ?
It sounds like it has gone into 'limp home' and locked in a low gear.
I suggest you get a read-out of fault codes to pin-point which part is causing it, assuming the earlier suggestion of low oil level is not the answer.
