Can't speak for the cars but I have a mate with a couple of 3-year-old Spinter vans which are in a terrible state - mostly around the rear door hinges. My Fiat Ducatos are holding out much better, and they're older!

My father has a 2004 E class from new, not a single spot of rust anywhere. Still in original exhaust!!

I guess it helps having been always garaged

W211 E Class still showed some rust until the 2006 facelift; I’ve seen none since then on the cars, though I saw a tatty 58-plate Sprinter recently

I had a 2003 E class which had a bit of rust round the boot lid which Merc would have done under warranty, but bought a 2007 E instead which had no rust at all. Anything after the facelift around 2006? should be ok to be certain.

Vans seem to fare much worse, even as late as 2010 they still appear to suffer from rust

I would agree with passenger cars anything about 2006 onwards should be Ok...
