C43 SLC apple car play connecting

2016 SLC C43 but can't get apple play to work, a previous car we looked at had it in and ours is the same year car so presume it should work.

in the arm rest it has the plug for phone connection and from what I have seen online should just be plug and play, plug it in and nothing comes up, the car works with bluetooth fine for calls and streams music ok without the lead connected.

Am I missing something.

In my C63S the two USB armrest/bin plugs don't work with car play as it has a designated slot where the cup holders are. Perhaps the SLC is the same?
