Bonnet latch problem on C240

I have a 2003 Mercedes C240 with a problem- I can’t open the bonnet to replace the flat battery.

I pull the red lever inside the car to unlock the bonnet - no problem

The black pull- latch then appears in the grill.

I pull the latch and nothing happens. The bonnet won’t open.

I can just about get my hand into the bonnet whilst ajar but the bonnet remains unable to open

Any tips please?

If you can eye-up the latch, spray some lithium grease or something onto the latch pivot.
A lithium grease sprayer with folding nozzle is a must-have.
