Got a C180K. About 5 weeks ago my old battery was on its last legs and died, so I got RAC to install a new one.

Haven't used the car since, so tonight I started it to keep the battery charged.

I've got "ESP faulty Visit workshop" appear.

I've no idea if RAC messed up, it's the cold weather or this is standard when the battery is changed.

Out of curiousity, is it possible RAC could install the wrong battery? During the installation the RAC system distributed the wrong battery. The guy installing it noticed this and said he had the correct battery in the van. I'm just wondering if this was the wrong battery again. Or, would the car simply not start?

The engine is ticking over fine.

I wouldn't think its battery related, things can fail for no reason.

I thought this was common and a quick drive will resolve the issue.

Probably just the steering angle sensor that needs resetting. Start the engine and turn the steering from lock to lock a couple of times and the message should disappear.

Okay, the steering column lock had been pulled up...... (wasn't me, a relative had the car).

Just pushed it down, clicked in to position but have warning message:

"ESP Not available See Owner's Manual".

Read the manual. Is a short drive actually likely to clear it or is that standard guff?

Google suggests low battery voltage. Go for a drive and see if that clears it.

Drove 20 yards and the warning disappeared.

Hope this thread helps anyone else with this problem.

Thanks for the replies, all appreciated.

Happens when you fit a new battery to some VWs as well. You need to take it for a short drive to allow the Steering Angle Sensor to re-calibrate.

I had the same issue with the wifes Audi, came on very shortly after fitting a new battery but went off after driving for a few minutes.
