The German manufacturers do a great job of building packages to take extra money from a customer. Some are obvious, such as here, some less so. I remember a threat here on PH about someone trying to sell an older X5 that didnt have satnav and the premium headunit. His trade-in values were a disaster as a result - and of course that package was an extra! Seems daft to think that there are 'essential' extras that you have to buy to keep value!
Also, things have changed on customer expectations though. They want screens, customization and smartphone support. Rev counter? Not so much. Not saying its correct, but they plan these things very carefully based on customer expectation and market segmentation. I suspect the average buyer doesnt really mind. Still seems strange though.
And try buying a Porsche - talk about gouging on stuff that isnt included as standard - at least all models come with a rev counter though.

The rev counter is in the centre. On the 993 it is the only dial that you see clearly. Porsche could extract a few extra pounds by doing the same. I’d imagine the take up would be high else you’d be looking at a giant dial thats been blanked outAlso, things have changed on customer expectations though.
