Looking at purchasing a e350cdi in the new year.

Been looking at a few and have come across one with 170k but a full service history, all receipts backing it up. Had 2 gearbox services and receipts for repairs.

Has anyone on here got one of these with around this mileage?

Anything I should look out for or keep in mind that these suffer with at high mileage.

What year.

My wife had a c350 (2014 I think). It was an absolute money pit past 70k miles.

IIRC it had a a couple of k spent on engine issues and required similar on the autobox.

Shame as it was a decent car otherwise.

Not a 350 but a 250 CDi…. I bought a 2012 S212 in February this year with 175k miles on the clock, and a reasonably comprehensive service history. It has also just had the rear subframe replaced under warranty due to rust so it would pass an MOT, so that’s definitely worth checking. I have already covered 30,000 miles since buying it - I bought it specifically because I was going to be doing a lot of miles commuting to a work assignment 150 miles from home.

In 30,000 miles it’s cost me an ‘A’ service, with a ‘B’ due in 3,500 miles. It’s he been serviced just before I bought it. That was around £400 at a specialist. It needed 2 new rear tyres shortly after I bought it, as one got a screw in it. They cost £300. It’s just had a set of Michelin Crossclimates fitted, at a cost of £600 a couple of thousand miles ago, It needed new pads and disks at the front - around £500 - to fix an annoying vibration on braking.

Repair wise, an exterior rear door handle stopped working, twice. That’s been fixed at a cost of around £80 a time. I had a snapped spring at the front, and replacing the front pair cost me around £350. I had to pay a garage a tenner to remove the front under-tray that kept coming loose and scraping the road. The stop/start hasn’t worked since I bought it, and I haven’t had it fixed. The auto main beam has a fault and doesn’t work, though the xenon’s themselves are fine and main beam can be operated manually. Also not fixed. After 204k miles the headlights are going cloudy where the headlamp wash hits the lens though!

But all in all, pretty cheap motoring I think, and very comfortable for the journey I do. 7 speed auto, cruise control at 72 and it’ll do an indicated 48 mpg (actual calculated 44.8).

I make that about 6p a mile in servicing and consumables, 2p a mile in repairs and 15p a mile or so in fuel. No idea how much it’s deprecated, but as I only paid £4,500 the worst it can be is 15p a mile!!

just off the top of the head - I would assume the oil cooler seals have been replaced. check for any oil leaks/ puddles in the centre of the "V" - these tend to go between 80-100k so would assume one has been done already - if not budget £500-1k as its around an 8hr job. make sure it shifts ok on the gearbox too and all relevant svc history is there too, but overall these are good buys.

I ran a 2010 E350 CDi coupe to ~150k. Engine and gearbox (both had regular oil changes with me) were ok but the car itself had a number of niggly £300 issues that were always different and annoying. Otherwise it still pulled like a train and was smooth as silk. I only got shot of it due to it not being ULEZ friendly otherwise i'd still have it.
