Hi everyone

Possible moving over to merc after a lot of years with multiple Vws and the odd bm here and there.

I am looking for 2012-2015 is what my budget is kind of showing year wise.
250 model
Around the 200bhp version
Auto saloon
Ideally an e class
I don’t want to go above 10 grand if I can help it
Was just wondering if anyone can point me direction
What the overall experiences are with your version, reliability and which engine has a reputation for a lot of miles.

Thanks 🤙🏻

The 250 model is the same engine for both ranges. It is the 2.1 litre CDi with 500nm and 201 bhp. I have a 2014 C250 coupe and a 2013 SLK 250. I also had the updated engine in my GLE 250, the update included the requirement for AdBlue.

In my opinion this engine is far superior to the newer 2.0 in later models.

Your budget should get a very reasonable car in either model range. Main difference is size.

I bought my e class 350 about 7 years ago as a stopgap. It is too good to let go!

I thought the 4 cylinder cars drove well until I drove a 6cylinder car. If you really don’t want a 350 then don’t test drive one is my suggestion. biglaugh

Depends where you go. Main dealer is pricey, I have two local indie merc garages - one is not much cheaper than main dealer, the other is much cheaper, last service was u deer £200.

I had the NOx sensor issue a few years ago, that was it cheap but will hopefully not recur.

Had the 350 also and worth it for the mpg hit in exchange for the smoothness, pretty sure the oil cooler has a common leak but probably done at this age.

Servicing on mine has been in the £200-300 range. Had brake pads in the GLE, but nothing else so far.

The insurance comes back very high for some reason.

Do you recommend any insurance brokers ?
