We've had a problem with the windscreen washers on Mrs DR's 2013 R231 SL350 not working - for those that don't know, they are the type that are built into the wiper arms so that one doesn’t get damp hair when washing the windscreen with the roof down, don't you know. Our local Mercedes specialist unclogged the bottle but said that we needed to use special washer fluid designed for this type of washer delivery system, which i will admit was a new one on me.

However, I tried to look for some but even with Mercedes themselves, I can't see any stuff that says its specifically for this type of washer - just their standard 'summer' and 'winter' types.

So, is the standard Mercedes stuff all we need or is there a really special type of fluid where a man in Germany sits and files down all the water molecules individually so they're smaller and fit through the holes more easily?!

I dont know a specific washer fluid for this system, the same function was also applied to some other models I think the branding by MB was "Magic vision" IIRC. I would expect the the genuine MB screenwash will be fine, as you said the MB website only shows winter and summer products:

Which screenwash did you use previously to block up the system out of interest?

We didn’t top it up with anything.

The car was purchased last December and the washers worked for about a month before stopping, so I’d never topped them up. No idea what the dealer used.

The Merc specialist we took it to said the filter in the washer bottle was clogged up.

I use Autoglym which is effective and contains inhibitors. Once bought some cheap concentrate screenwash from Halfords, and the bottle with some left over mix had black algae lumps in it after a couple of weeks.
