SLK230 1999 Exhaust failure
Discussion
My CAT has died and my local garage doesn't want to help replacing it.
Mertrux in Derby have told me there are no original parts in the UK or Germany.
Can anyone suggest someone in Derbyshire or Staffordshire that could supply a full exhaust system and preferably fit it as well? I know I only really need the cat but the whole system looks tired and worn out (also backed up by the two engineers who have looked at it today.
Hope you can help as we've had our 1999 SLK 230 for 25 years now and would be sad to have to say goodbye to it just for the sake of a catalytic converter

I used to have a 1999 SLK 230 and I got a full stainless system made up for it by MIJ Exhausts in Walsall. It was a good job although they had to have it back in as it was a bit too “fruity” first time. Fuel consumption improved very noticeably.
There are plenty of exhaust places that can weld you a new, generic cat in place or build you a new system. There’s a cracking place here (Rochdale) but obviously that’s much too far - so MIJ would be my recommendation.

That’s the way to go, the last time we tried getting a system the customer scrapped the car due to the cost. There are plenty of exhaust places that can weld you a new, generic cat in place or build you a new system.
