Hi all,

As some my know, I got me a CLK430 a little wee while ago - It came with a "5 Star" RAC backed warranty, which boasted a £1,000 limit per claim, yada yada yada... now it comes to fixing something on the car - A problem with the e/roof, they claim that they'll only pay out to a max of £36/ph for labour and the rest is up to me - regardless of the total value the claim comes to!!!!

I bet nobody can point me in the direction of a Mercedes MD garage that only charges £36/ph for labour. What a bloody rip off! The little book that the warranty is laid out in doesn't mention anything of the sort. It's only when you actually go to make a claim.

So will hey pay £1k and is it just the hourly rate they are reluctant to pay?

If it's not in the warranty docs then thats misselling as it would reasonable for you to have known that would be an issue. Re-read the policy and then contact the Trading Standards

Could you not ask a friendly garage to bill £36 an hour but charge for more hours to make up the extra cost ?

Unfortunately you need to threaten them with legal action and they may well back down, be prepared to follow it through, its regretable but these warranties are for the most part not worth the cost. The only warranty I have found delivers is the BMW used car, I found the merc equivalent not as good.
