I'm thinking of buying an E320 Cab. The prices are all over the place. Some stealers are asking 25K, some 10K. Does anyone have any idea what I should be paying for a good example?

Depends just how 'mint' and pedigree you want,
whether buying private, from a dealer or a specialist

From what i see about, £12k ish (especially at the moment) should secure an excellent car privately (and probably what then specialist have up around £15k)

£25k buys mega low miles, minter from a specialist (ie the very very best)

Sub £10k privately normally has big miles or a 'history'

Guess it depends on whether your buying it as a 'collectable' or a car to use as to how much and how mint you want to go

Article in this months' Mercedes Enthusiat's mag (p52)suggests the very best E320 cabs go for £20k ..with clean low mileage E220 cabs w/service history starting at £12k.

Apparently only 1346 cabs were imported into the UK.

IMHO , I think SL's are better value for money for open top motoring.

Im not normally a fan of soft tops but , an E320 W124 cab is a stunning car .Go on buy one you wont regret it , i think 12-15k is about right for a good one with history , 20k is just opertunistic dealers cashing in on the popularity of the W124 at the moment.

It is a marvellous car, built to a phenomenal standard, much higher than regular w124s. Price new was up to £60k with options and that was 15 years ago.

Prices are indeed all over the place with a lot of dealers really chancing their arm. The cars at the established specialists are the best, but they are not always perfect and certainly not always of the standard their price tags might suggest.

Charles Ironside, Auto Barn and Classic Benz (especially the latter) seem simply to think of a number and double it. I do wonder how many of their cars sell at the asking price. Cheshire Classic Benz seem more realistic.

I suspect cars at other dealers fall a long way short of the mark. Anything sub-£12k I would be very wary of unless the mileage is huge.

The best value cars will be at private sellers.

Mileage is the main factor in price. Ironside has a very nice 320CE at a reasonable price, the only downside being the high mileage. I would guess it is the better of his cars.

The R129 is much better value, but it is nothing like as rare, doesn't seat four and is not really comparable. The A124 will also appreciate if maintained well and used sparingly.

Thanks everyone for your help. I would like a good example that has been maintained to a high standard. It will be my every day car and therefore I'm not looking for a concours winning, garage queen.
