I've just bought a SL60AMG and would like to get it serviced. Unsure as to whether to use Merc or a specialist, any advice appreciated. Also if anyone could flag up a local specialist in the Essex area, Thanks.

I use Waterhouse Mercedes, specifically their service department in Braintree - try and speak to Sean Case 01376 329200.

Must admit, it is the nuts. Coming from a Tuscan and Elise. It's certainly different in character. Epic though!

Just out of interest just how much do the Merc specialists charge?

I was going to use one until I discovered that the main MB dealer in Leeds charges 73/hour (inc vat iirc) for Mercs over 4 years old.

I doubt that that is outrageously more than an independent plus you also have a lot more come back, customer service, loan car/taxi etc.

Checked with Merc Chelmsford. Lubrication service, fixed £150 + VAT, £275 + VAT full service on older cars. Labour at £80 / hr. Cant really moan at that!

they also have ready access to Stuttgart - my car is 30 next year. Earlier this year I went in to ask for a replacement ignition key (wanted a spare): chassis number, v5 and new key from Stuttgart arrives a few days later - and it works perfectly (none of this mucking about with a key from a cobbler which may or may not work....). Last time my car was in Stuttgart was 29 years ago, but they could still sort me out a key...

Just to confirm those figures, annual minor service earlier this month was a total of £184.

I would give Prestige Car Services in Waterlooville a call

Bit of a drive but people come from the 4 corners to go to Olly

A perfectionist and highly recommended

Try PMW in Chelmsford.

Have used Peter for five years - very knowledgeable and fair - cannot recommend highly enough.

Give him a ring and have a chat.

Bit late obviously, but I'm in Billericay too and used Mercaid, now called the AidGroup as they do BMWs and Audi too but found them excellent and well priced with some very experienced ex main dealer techs.

I dropped in unappointed with a busted internal door handle which the sorted on the spot so they get my vote.

I was going to use him, but he was more expensive than Waterhouse on my (ex) wife's A Class. I'm going to have Bishops Stortford service my C43 - about £80 an hour labour...
