SLK55 - Opinions

Hi All, Help please!
Looking for a new weekend car and the SLK55 AMG has hit my radar (are these still with handbuilt engines), I'm seeing that there's now quite a few 55 plates around 25-28/30k.
From those that have owned one: what was it like to drive? a drivers car or a great dragster and cruiser?
Appreciate you input!

Alex,
Good car but just didn"t do it for me in the power department, now have an SL55 AMG and your budget would get you into one.
SL is a much better car imo in terms of performance / room etc.
Go and have a ride in one before you make your mind up.
Mine now has around 600bhp after a visit to DMS !!
Good luck.
Tony.

Cheers Tony, I will do..600 bhp sounds like it should get you to the shops before they close..
Always liked the SL55, but it's a big car and living in london the parking spaces don't help...
I'll retake a look the SL55s, always been told the early ones are trouble (electrics mainly)?
but I love the noise of a 55..haven't heard the SLK, but the SLs always bring a smile...

Mines on a 52 plate but had only covered 11k from new when I bought it. Now done 24k and it hasn"t given me any trouble at all, fantastic car, I"m sure you will be hooked.Always liked the SL55, but it's a big car and living in london the parking spaces don't help...

I own a 2005 SLK55 and I have to say it as a fantastic car to drive. It is so stable on the road and effortless to drive quickly!
As far as the SL55 goes, I did have a look at one or two, but I found them to be just too big to provide a real sports car thrill, and because they are so much heavier there really isnt much difference in the straight line performance of the SL and SLK.
The noise of both the SL and SLK is similar, and very distinctive. Sounds as good as any road car IMO.
Give one a try I'm sure you wont look back!
