What would an E63 cost me to run?
Discussion
Hi
Major major car dilemmas

My 2002 E46 330d has to go
Its been alovely car and barring 6y of depreciation (which Im actually happy with) has costs peanuts to run, fuel, insure etc etc etc
We 'need' a change
For dull reasons its either an SUV or another slightly bigger wagon
Much as I fancy a current cheap V8 RR Sport (diesel and petrol both baragins) Ive always had an itch for a big Benz and for V8's
E63s are not quite as cheap as other cars but its only a matter of time before they are
Assuming Im happy with the purchase price and insurance, Id be very very grateful if anyone here can tell me what they actually cost to run/service
If not an E class then any stories of CLC's etc etc welcome
I plan to buy one approx 1-2y old and run it for 6-10 years
Cheers
The big hit is depreciation.
Look at E55 prices to see how much they loose.
But keeping it 6+ years makes this pretty irrelevant.
It is a fantastic car, I tried an estate, sounds like thunder and I would love one but I get bored after 6-12 months and still prefer the E55 in some ways, in the E Class anyway.
I prefer the C63.
Servicing is expensive, brakes and tyres a fortune as they need changing too often.
Apart from that just fuel, and it drinks!!
I saw 8mpg most of the test drive, and resetting it and driving it easy back to the dealer only saw it at 16mpg. So not cheap at all.

Running costs are fairly cheap for 500 BHP car. They are by there nature never going to be cheap to run in the real world my (e55 estate) 19.8 mpg average, needs a new set of back tires every 7-9k miles (£360 a pair) and a service every 9-12k miles at a cost of around £400. Brakes arnt to bad and just got a set of genuine merc front disks for £120 and a full set of red stuff pads for £220. My insurance is £500 a year.
You may find an E500 estate to be much cheaper to buy and to run while still offering pretty monster performance. They really are peanuts second hand, although there are not many of them around (they can be had from a dealer, 2yrs old, 20k miles, for £25grand).
The new V8 packs 388bhp and 390lb/ft. The E500's torque "peak" is from 2,800 to 4,000rpm, whereas the E63 produces 464lb/ft but not until 5,200rpm. Fuel consumption is signficantly better than the E63 which is renowned for its thirst.
To my mind, best of all is that the E500 is a total sleeper, whereas the E63 is a little vulgar in its appearance.

I'd second that. When I was having my C43 snapped for Performance Car recently the journo was telling me how much he loved the faceilft E500 (ie the one with the 388bhp motor). On the launch he got one round the Nurburgring in 9 minutes. It gets forgotten as everyone either focuses on the diseasles or the supercharged AMG's. The new V8 packs 388bhp and 390lb/ft. Definitely on my shortlist when I change (BTW the shortlist is C32/C55/E500).
