A-Class wooooooooshing noise... help!

My missus has an A170 CDI and just today it has started making a strange woooooshing noise. It isnt there when you start the car but once it has warmed up, it starts to make the noise, as if there is an air leak or a similar sound to what Air Con systems make, just louder, plus it doesnt have air con.
When you turn the car off, it will continue to make the noise for around 30 seconds and then gradually get quieter. It seems to be coming from around the back of the car but I cant be 100% sure.
Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? Im stumped
