Having collected my 'new' 2004 SL55 AMG last week l've discovered that l can't use my iPod in the car as apparently no Merc pre-2004 can support it?

l also spoke to "Braybrooks", the Merc audio specialists, who said nothing is made at the moment but Alpine are developing something in the New Year which should allow iPod's to work in SL55's.

Another in-car specialist said they could do it for about £400 but with limited display and no certainty it would work with the steering wheel controls.

Can l not download my iPod onto recordable CD's and then play my iPod music on the 6 CD changer?

How have other's done this?

l would need for the iPod to be charging as it was playing.

Thanks in anticipation.....

I am sure you can burn your Ipod music onto disc and put in your changer but we had an email from Mercedes saying do not use certain recordadle cds as some are thicker than normal cds and can get stuck..I think 1.3 mm thick is the maximum.
I am in the same boat but I have the COMMAND system and for all what it cost you cannot connect it to an IPOD without the Merc integration kit which is another £180...Not much use for me as I change car every 9 months

Are you saying that there IS a MB iPod kit and that it costs approx. £180?

If so, then that's what I need/want. However, I've been told that there ISN'T a kit to fit a SL?

Have you got any details/links, etc. please.

Try this place http://www.comand.co.uk/
I got it from the MB forums and the bloke that runs the above site is the resident guru for anything Ipod/Iphone.
I did however see a post on there that says something does not work with the SL. It may be worth giving them a call as they may have a way round to work in your car.
Or try this site http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/iPod_Car_Kit/For...

They have a few MB kits but I have no idea if they fit an SL
