I have one of these. 1999 SL500. I have now put 160,000miles on the clock. It is a fantastic car: fast (especially above 80mph), extremely long-legged, comfortable, safe, strong and very reliable. My car is worthless because of the mileage and because it is in that unfashionable no-man's land between modern and classic. If you can get a good one of these, then do so, you will not regret it. They are far, far better than the newer R230 model (I ran a 2004 SL500 for a a couple of weeks) and far, far more modern than a R107 model (I ran a 1981 500 SL for a couple of weeks).
