with the price of the last generation CL's dropping to a point where they could be a second car, does anyone have any experience of living with them - on a possible day to day car but probably more likely a weekend car. I've got a wife and 2 small (4 and 2) kids. are they suitable for the shopping runs etc.. and could you pack enough for a loing weekend?

Cheers

Hi Gareth,

I bought one about 10 months ago.....supercharged CL55 in silver , 1 Owner fmbsh and 50k on the clock.........car has been faultless todate with only expense being a new set of tyres - but then again that was after a VMAX thrash at Bruntingthorpe!!

I work overseas so the car is very much a weekend car - great for weekends away and returns low to mid 20's with a gentle right foot........can't see any problem with running any CL as a second/weekend car........just make sure you check the dealer history and paintwork carefully (Rear wing/roof and sunroof edge etc) as with any Merc! I paid 25k for mine and know I will have lost a chunk of that in the present climate but car was intended as an interim car whilst I waited for the V10 R8.......good thing is I know intend to cancell the R8 order and keep the CL.....she's an elegant old thing and has a real feal good factor....sunny day all the windows down and engine bellowing away pretty much the bargain 500hp car at the mo IMHO......

oh forgot to say........no probs with shopping runs but if your children are small and in child seats or on boosters you may find the electric seat action a bit annoying for getting the kids in and out all the time......even though you have a large door opening you have to wait for the front seats to move fully forward to get good access.

Thanks Simon that does help. Last Year I test drove a CL65 AMG. I was blown away with the power of the thing. I didn't really inspect the back seats TBH. I'm wondering how a 55AMG (supercharged) and the 600 bi turbo compare to the 65.

At the time the dealer wanted £75k. similar cars are now selling between £40 and £55k
