Would like to know peoples opinions on this car:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/804040.htm

What would be a good finance deal on PCP? Anyone reckon 24 months at just under £600 with a GFV of £16,650? I dont want to own the vehicle so is this a good deal?

Anyones opinions greatly received.

Cheers

Looks fantastic, but you would pay £14400 + any deposit over two years? Seems an expensive way to drive it. Could you negotiate 2 years Tier 1 warranty in the price and the first years VED? That would be a decent sweetener.

Sorry mate, whats that?

The thing about paying £14.4k over two years is that this way i know where i stand. If i py cash this car could easily be worth less than £16.5k then.

Sorry I didnt make myself clear!

Ask him the full history, and when it has had pads and discs renewed. I am led to believe they are v v expensive in the AMG models. Also ask when the next service is due and what sort of service - A or B, if it is close get them to service it. If it is a main dealer also be careful that they give it a 'proper' pre sale inspection, many will just give it a cursory check. It may even pay to have an AA/RAC inpection done just to give you more bagaining power.

Adjusted trade book is £25000. The 'Trade' price today is 20-21k, dropped
£2700 in Decembers book that's why dealer is super keen to sell.
Value in 2 years circa £10000- £12000 is my opinion.

I don't see them dropping that much. It will be 5 years old by then, by comparison looking at 5 year old E55 Kompressor's they're starting around £15,000. The CLS will carry a slight premium compared to an E Class, so the 16.5k figure he was quoted would probably get you the cheapest CLS55 in 2 years time.

Fair point, but this car is starting at 54000miles + 2 years motoring so
will be about 80000miles come sale day.

So, after all this....am i best waiting till January/February/March till the CLS55's are around £20k?

What are the chances that they will be this low?

If they are, i think i will wait smile

My guess is by March these and all similar cars will be £4-5000 cheaper

Mark.

Ps you could always offer them 23k for it.

Offer £23k on it now if you want that one, but i think you will get a sub 30k mile one for under £20k by spring.

Oh, and if you do need/want to swap that in 6 months expect a £18k back for it.

The fact it is trading now for £21k means there is no way they will be trading for £16500 in 2 years, it will be a £12k trade at best, retailing for £15k maybe.

Bought a CLS320 with AMG kit a few months back, Love the car so much that I am keeping an eye on the AMG prices. Looking to keep the 320 for every day and the 55 for fun times.

I looked at this very car as I want something different to Black (as I have black) & Silver as I think its to drab. Designo mauritius blue would be my ultimate colour on my next CLS biggrin

This is hell of a car for the money though, mileage is a little high though I guess...

Whats difficult is when my mate who is trader tells me that it would be silly to get this car right now, when they will be around £20k in a few months time.

I also am not sure how desperate they are to sell. They would not budge on the price and have not rang me back after i have had numerous conversations with them before the weekend.

interesting, are you still keen on buying this now if they call you back or will you wait for a few months and look for others?

I am keen to buy a CLS now but know prices will drop more in a few months time but I'm not sure how patient I can be if I find a really good one...

If they came back and said £23k i would prob accept. I think though however that it would be best to wait. A drop of £5k in 2 months seems likely so a big saving to be had for employing a little bit of patience.

Do you feel the same?

Is a "new shape" CLS planned anytime soon?

I am aware of an 08 facelift, and possibly a new shape around 2010?

my head says wait but I have been without a car for 6 months+ now and after finally deciding on which car to buy, a wait of a few more months will seem like forever!

but you are right, if a nice saving can be made it may be worth it.

You never know the dealer may call you back by the end of this week?

I need to call a few dealers myself about some cdis, lets see if it really is a buyers market...

I would have said that now is the time to really bid hard. The time immediately before Xmas must be really slow, particularly this year. County, I would call them up again and make it known that you will buy at £23K. But make sure that they don't try and save money by not selling it with a full years Tier 1 warranty.
